Free entry for
Modena race.
24th August: The Italian Drag Racing
Association is offering free entry to bike classes for their race
at Modena on 29th-30th September, which includes the final round
of the European Top Gas Series - currently led by Italy's Riccardo
Gilberto. "The Supertwin Top Gas class decided to join our race
and have their finals in Italy, so we are also inviting other
bike classes to join the race for no entry fee, in order to get
a taste of our organization", says IDRA President Lorenzo Lauro.
"Super Gas and Super Street car classes are also invited, and
if we can arrange the right safety equipment then we will open
the race to Super Comp as well." Lorenzo also told us a little
about the track at Modena. "The track is 850 metres long and 20
metres wide, good flat asphalt", he says. "It is a very nice airport
and has a semi-permanent underground wiring for our Portatree
timing system, which has scoreboards, time slip printer and full
qualifying software. Chances are that during next winter the track
will be increased to 1.2 kilometres." The IDRA web site at www.dragster.it
has been updated with details of the race at Modena, including
classes to be run, an entry form, maps and a list of hotels. Lorenzo
tells us that as soon as the decision is made about Super Comp,
it will be posted on the web site and that he will send us the
news for posting here, so watch this space.
Super Comp at Modena.
21st September: You may remember from
our news item back on the 24th August that no decision had yet
been made as to whether Super Comp could run at the Italian Drag
Racing Association race at Modena over the weekend of the 29th
and 30th September. Well Lorenzo Lauro has been back in touch
to confirm that having put the necessary safety features in place
at the track, Super Comp cars will now definitely be able to take
part in the meeting.
